Waterford’s Nagle Centre, which provides community-based affordable training in computing and information technology has launched their expanded range of IT Training Courses for September commencement.

The courses at The Nagle Centre located in the Millennium Building, Lisduggan offers the opportunity for up skilling and re-training with the first classes scheduled to commence on Monday, August 31.

Some of the courses commencing later this month include an introductory course to the Internet & Email, FETAC Word Processing level 5, Keyboard Skills, ECDL basic and advanced, courses in computerised accounts, photography, Image-maker, primary and secondary school student ECDL Courses

Courses at the Nagle Centre are delivered by successful former students, who have been accredited as trainers and who now share their experience with current course participants.

Commenting on the range of courses on offer, Sister Josephine Deegan, Nagle Centre Director, said: “We are delighted that our offering of courses has broadened again this term and that training at the Nagle Centre has gone from strength to strength, it is particularly pleasing that we able to offer courses at the most reasonable rates available, assistant with fees for those on social welfare payments is possible.

“Acquiring new skills and knowledge can greatly increase career prospects. In the current economic climate many people are exploring the possibility of up skilling and re-training; choosing a programme with The Nagle Centre can help towards that goal. Some people who are accustomed to living in a non-digital world may feel intimidated by technology, by learning some simple computer skills, they can quickly understand how technology can improve their quality of life and help them to hold the best qualifications for potential career opportunities and improve their confidence.” added Sr Josephine

The Nagle Centre was established by the Presentation Sisters who identified a need for inclusive training within the community. While the Presentation Sisters are still very much involved with the management of the centre, day-to-day running is the responsibility of the staff.

In recent years the Nagle Centre has gone from strength to strength, and now offers classes to the whole community – from primary school children to people with disabilities, early school leavers and asylum seekers – in fact, anyone who has not previously had the opportunity to acquire such skills.
